What is the backstory?

I’m a busy mom of three and a real estate professional, with a Master’s in Counseling from Virginia Tech (go Hokies).
When a homeless veteran with no family needed help during a serious medical situation, I stepped in.
What I didn’t expect was how hard it would be to actually help.
Without the right tools and permissions, I kept hitting roadblocks. I couldn’t get clear answers, and he often didn’t fully understand what was happening himself.
So I took the time to learn how the system works—and what it truly takes to advocate well—while still honoring his right to make his own decisions.
That experience is why I created this Advocacy Starter Guide and the resources that followed.
So caregivers like you can show up prepared, informed, and confident—without having to figure it out the hard way.
